Incoming Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi is expected to be sworn back into the House on Feb. 28, according to a GOP leadership aide. That will officially cut the GOP’s majority down to just two votes, after Suozzi defeated Republican Mazi Melesa Pilip in the special election for a Long Island congressional district. It was previously held by expelled GOP Rep. George Santos. Suozzi, who represented Santos’s district before running for governor in 2022, ran as a conservative Democrat aided by his name recognition on Long Island, but Democrats quickly seized on the victory to settle anxieties that President Joe Biden will be a drag down ballot in 2024.
