Creationist GOP Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers To Retire

Just in via press release:

It’s been the honor and privilege of my life to represent the people of Eastern Washington in Congress. They inspire me every day. They are part of the strength and soul of America — the greatest experiment in self-governance the world has ever known.

After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided the time has come to serve them in new ways. I will not be running for re-election to the People’s House.

Especially as Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I’ve seen the best of Eastern Washington and the United States of America. The best is yet to come.

A ten-term ardent creationist, Rodgers appeared here in January 2023 when she handed out bibles to each member of the House and urged them to “read it in full” before considering that year’s issues.

In July 2022, she appeared here when she declared that access to birth control causes more abortions.

In September 2018, she was exposed for scrubbing her website of anti-Obamacare positions as she faced a difficult reelection.

In July 2017, she was booed off a Seattle stage with shouts of “liar” during remarks on MLK Day.

Rodgers has a 0% rating from the Human Rights Campaign, having voted against every LGBTQ-related issue during her ten terms.
