The Arizona Republic reports:
Republican state Sen. Jake Hoffman strong-armed a bill through the Senate Government Committee that would prohibit the display of “satanic memorials, statues, altars or displays, or any other method of representing or honoring Satan” on public property in Arizona.
In arguing for Senate Bill 1279, Hoffman said, “It is a desecration of our public property in the United States of America and in the state of Arizona for a satanic display, memorial, altar, etc., to be on public property.”
But what about poor Sparky? And will ASU now have to go back to the school’s original mascot, the bulldog, since a Sun Devil on public property would be outlawed? No more devil’s trident on football helmets or sports uniforms, T-shirts, gym trunks, socks, shoes, hats and on and on?
Read the full article. As noted in the piece, the proposed bill would violate three clauses of the First Amendment.
Hoffman, one of Arizona’s fake electors, appeared here in 2022 for his “No Promo Homo” bill that would have banned discussions on homosexuality during public school sexual health classes.
Also in 2022, he introduced a successful bill that requires proof of citizenship to vote. The DOJ sued Arizona after then Gov. Doug Ducey signed the bill.
In 2021, Hoffman was banned by Twitter for running a pro-Trump paid troll farm with Charlie Kirk.
Hoffman last appeared here in January 2023 when his Arizona Freedom Caucus sued Gov. Katie Hobbs for signing an executive order expanding LGBTQ protections.

”It is legally & constitutionally suspect to argue that Satan, someone universally known to be an explicit enemy of God, is somehow a religion,’’ Hoffman said.https://t.co/hBzhF79Lug

Did @JakeHoffmanAZ and @AZSenateGOP just vote to force ASU to change its mascot, which is literally a representation of Satan? Seriously, how is Sparky not representing or honoring Satan? I mean, as a Wildcat I’m cool with this, but seriously? pic.twitter.com/jLtxqlx4cv
