Three US Troops Killed By Drone In Jordan, 25 Injured

The Stars & Stripes reports:

Three U.S. service members were killed and 25 injured Sunday in a one-way drone attack at a small U.S. base in northeast Jordan, near the Syria border, U.S. Central Command announced. The attack is another escalation of the hostilities between the U.S. and enemies in the Middle East following the Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7. The identities of the service members will be withheld until 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified per Department of Defense policy.

CNN reports:

The killing of three Americans at Tower 22 in Jordan near the border with Syria is a significant escalation of an already-precarious situation in the Middle East. Officials said the drone was fired by Iran-backed militants and appeared to come from Syria. It’s unclear why air defenses failed to intercept the drone, which appears to be the first known attack on Tower 22 since attacks on US and coalition forces began on October 17. US forces at the outpost are there as part of an advise-and-assist mission with Jordan.
