Dem Rep: Biden Should Nationalize TX National Guard

U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, called on the Biden administration to nationalize the Texas National Guard if Gov. Greg Abbott won’t follow a Monday U.S. Supreme Court ruling that lets federal agents cut razor wire the state installed to deter border crossings.

“Governor Abbott is using the Texas National Guard to obstruct and create chaos at the border,” Castro said in a statement. “If Abbott is defying [Monday’s] Supreme Court ruling, President Biden needs to establish sole federal control of the Texas National Guard immediately.”

Castro’s comments came hours after reports surfaced that Abbott — a Republican locked in a showdown with the White House over immigration — ordered the Texas National Guard to deploy additional concertina wire along the Rio Grande.
