The Washington Post reports:
President Biden blamed Iranian-backed militant groups for a drone attack in Jordan that killed three U.S. service members and injured more than 30, and he promised to respond.
It was the first deadly strike against American personnel since the Gaza conflict sparked a spate of regional violence. “We had a tough day last night in the Middle East,” Biden said. “And we shall respond.”
The deadly attack targeted a facility known as Tower 22 in northeastern Jordan, close to where the borders of Syria, Iraq and Jordan converge. A U.S. defense official said the one-way drone struck the base’s living quarters, causing injuries that ranged from cuts and bruises to brain trauma.
