New Jersey Defies Feds With Highway Warning Signs

New Jersey transportation officials have posted quirky, holiday-themed highway safety warnings for drivers, even though the federal government ordered the state to remove similar signs last year.

“Only Rudolph should be lit, drive high get DUI,” one of this year’s digital signs reads. “Reckless drivers are worse than fruitcake,” says another.

In 2022, the Federal Highway Administration told the NJ Department of Transportation to take down highway signs with messages including “Slow down, this ain’t Thunder Road” and “We’ll be blunt, don’t drive high,” saying they didn’t meet national standards.
