Michigan GOP Faces Bankruptcy Over $770K in Debt

CBS News reports:

A draft of an upcoming report alleges the Michigan GOP is more than a half million dollars in debt. “Confirmed hard factual debt that we have on the books right now is somewhere in the neighborhood of $620,000,” said Warren Carpenter, who commissioned the report given to CBS News Detroit.

“We estimate that to be around $150,000 still owed. So the potential net fallout could be $770,000 in total debt.” In his draft report, Carpenter alleges the MIGOP owes more than $500,000 to Comerica Bank, which the party has done business with for years. Plus, approximately $110,000 to an actor who spoke at a conference last fall.

A draft report from Michigan Republican Party insiders provided to MLive claims the state party is on “the brink of bankruptcy” under the leadership of embattled chair Kristina Karamo.

“In only a matter of a few months, the party is essentially non-functional and, worse yet, the party and others associated with the party are now facing potential civil and criminal consequences for breaking laws,” the report says.

Warren Carpenter, the report’s sponsor, is part of a faction within the party’s state committee seeking to oust Karamo from her role as chair. Thirty-nine member of the party’s state committee have requested a special meeting of the state committee Dec. 27, where they hope to amend the party’s bylaws to lower the threshold of votes needs to remove Karamo.

Karamo is a notorious QAnon nutbag. Note the tweet below.
