Two weeks ago Michael Voris – the comically bewigged supposedly “ex-gay” founder of the Catholic far-right media operation Church Militant – was ousted for unspecified “morality clause” violations. The next day Voris posted a lengthy sob story video in which he passingly mentioned his “demons” but didn’t come clean on the nature of his departure, saying that the reasons are “nobody’s business.”
Yesterday a now-former employee of Church Militant posted his own video. Here’s a recap from a Catholic blogger:
Since the video is now public and everyone’s already talking about it, I don’t think it’s too salacious to come out and say that the accusations against Voris are of a sexual nature: that he was living an “active homosexual lifestyle” all along, that he’d been spotted at gay bars, that he made male staff feel “groomed,” that he had somehow posted a sexually explicit picture to the Church Militant dropbox and boasted about masturbating to it, and that Church Militant tried to cover all this up. And the crowd is going wild. There is nothing that Catholic social media likes better than beating the bully back once he’s been caught.
Two weeks ago I wrote this:
Voris, of course, has made the personal lives of millions of LGBTQ Americans his business for many years.
Per the AP, in 2021 Voris was banned from holding a rally outside US Conference of Catholic Bishops because he had “exalted and promoted” the attack on the US Capitol. A federal appeals court ultimately overturned that decision by the city of Baltimore.
In 2010 a JMG reader shared with me his own experience of attending International Mister Leather with Voris in the 1990s. I was unable to independently confirm that.
Some appear to be crediting notorious anti-LGBTQ activist Jesse Lee Peterson with Voris’ ouster. You may recall that last year two of Peterson’s male associates went on the record to say they’d had sex with him.
Here’s the video referenced above. Start at the 5:00 mark.
