Last Christmas by Wham! has made pop history, topping the Christmas chart for the first time since it was released almost four decades ago.

The popular song, written by George Michael when he was a teenager, has been a staple of the Christmas charts ever since, but never made it to the festive number spot before this year.

The song was released in the winter of 1984, but was famously held off the number one spot that year by the UK’s charity anthem Do They Know It’s Christmas? sung by the collected efforts of Band Aid.
