Sen. Joe Manchin’s launch of a national “movement to mobilize the middle” began in earnest Friday as he spoke at an event in Georgia focused on political civility.
“This is going to be the birthplace of civility in the political process now,” Manchin said at the University of Georgia’s inaugural Isakson Symposium on Political Civility, named after the late Sen. Johnny Isakson.
His appearance at the event had been scheduled two months ago, long before he announced Thursday the he would not run for reelection to the Senate. But it was the perfect start to the next chapter he teased in his announcement video, which has stoked speculation he may launch a third party presidential run.
