ABC News reports:
The House has voted for its newest speaker candidate, Rep. Mike Johnson. He is the fourth nominee for the top job after the historic ouster of Kevin McCarthy earlier this month. The chaotic battle for the gavel has dragged on after House Majority Leader Steve Scalise was nominated, but backed out when it became clear he didn’t have the votes. Last week, the conference dropped Rep. Jim Jordan as their nominee after his speakership bid failed for a third time on the House floor. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer had the nomination for less than a day before he dropped his bid Tuesday evening.

And with that, Republicans have elected the man who is arguably the House’s most anti-LGBTQ member, a man who as lead counsel for an anti-LGBTQ hate group, filed dozens of lawsuits against same-sex marriage, same-sex adoption, same-sex marital benefits, and just about any other LGBTQ rights issue you could think of.
If Mike Johnson is elected House Speaker, he will almost certainly owe a greater political debt and obligation to an ex-President than any other Speaker in history.

Reminder that Mike Johnson is a virulent Christian Nationalist who pushed all kinds of hateful anti-LGBTQ bigotry while at Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian Nationalist legal outfit that wants to drag this country back to the 5th century. https://t.co/ShLEQOwj5Q

When people like Tim O’Hare (Tarrant County Judge) and Mike Johnson (potential Speaker of the House) tout their experience with Alliance Defending Freedom, know that’s a Christian Nationalist group that “seeks to recover the Christendomic theology of the 3rd-5th centuries” 😱 😳 pic.twitter.com/EcWbrEJpke
