LIVE VIDEO: House Votes On GOP Speaker Designate

The Washington Post reports:

The House is expected to vote Wednesday on whether to install Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) as its speaker. Late Tuesday, Johnson became the fourth Republican pick for the post since the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) three weeks ago. It remains unclear whether Johnson can accomplish what the other three could not: achieve a majority vote in the full chamber. Johnson, vice chair of the House Republican Conference, has maintained a lower profile than previous GOP picks for speaker since his election to Congress in 2016. The House is scheduled to convene at noon Eastern time.

Yesterday’s vote for Rep. Tom Emmer was called off at the last minute when Emmer withdrew after Trump called him a “globalist RINO.” As I noted this morning, Johnson arguably has the most viciously anti-LGBTQ history of any House member. And that’s saying something.
