Oklahoma City’s ABC affiliate reports:
An Oklahoma congressman has announced he will be running for House speaker. Rep. Kevin Hern, a Republican representing Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District, announced his campaign for the position on social media.
“I voted for my good friend Jim Jordan to stay as our Speaker Designate, but the Conference has determined that he will no longer hold that title,” said Hern in a statement. “We just had two Speaker Designates go down. We must unify and do it fast.”
“We need a different type of leader who has a proven track record of success, which is why I’m running for Speaker of the House,” said Hern in a statement.

With an estimated net worth of around $100 million, Hern made his fortune with McDonald’s franchises. Despite that, his company took $2 million in COVID relief funds. He recently appeared here for his bill to end free school lunches for impoverished children.
