The Messenger reports:
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., denied that his political proxies paid conservative influencers to post negative things about Rep. Matt Gaetz online, but the Florida Republican doesn’t believe him.
“I saw a number of MAGA influencers online — DC Draino, Citizen Free Press — were posting these solicitations asking for folks to create a false negative sentiment around me online,” Gaetz said.
Gaetz noted that McCarthy’s general counsel “sort of hastily put together a cease and desist when they got caught.” The letter, which The Messenger obtained, was from Elliot S. Berke, managing partner at Berke Farrah LLC, who described himself as “outside counsel” for McCarthy.
