Ohio Overwhelmingly Rejects GOP Anti-Abortion Ploy

The Columbus Dispatch reports:

Issue 1 failed in Ohio Tuesday as voters in large counties, suburban and rural areas turned out against the effort to change how Ohio’s constitution is amended. Decision Desk HQ, an election results reporting agency providing results and race calls for the USA TODAY Network Ohio, called the race around 8:12 p.m.

Early results show the issue failing overwhelmingly in larger counties including Franklin, Hamilton, Cuyahoga, Lucas, Montgomery and Stark. Issue 1 is also failing in many suburban and rural counties as well such as Butler, Clermont and Warren counties near Cincinnati and Delaware, Fairfield and Pickaway counties near Columbus.

The Aug. 8 election is the culmination of a fight that began last year, when Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Rep. Brian Stewart, R-Ashville, [photo] first introduced a plan to tighten the rules for constitutional amendments.
