“The history of the United States Capitol Rotunda, that during the Civil War it was used as a field hospital and countless Union soldiers died on that floor, and they died because they were fighting the Civil War to end slavery. And I think that place should be treated with a tremendous amount of respect for the dead. If anyone had been laying a series of graves in Arlington National Cemetery, what do you think people would say?” – GOP Rep. Derrick Van Orden, defending his obscene tirade lobbed at teenage Capitol pages who were lying on their backs to take photos of the Capitol dome.
According to one page, Van Orden shouted, “Wake the fuck up you little shits. What the fuck are you all doing? Get the fuck out of here. You are defiling the space you pieces of shit. Who the fuck are you? You jackasses, get out!”
As I noted earlier today, Van Orden attended the riot at the US Capitol, was once arrested for attempting to bring a loaded gun onto a plane, and last year checked out all the LGBTQ books in his hometown library’s Pride Month display after launching an obscene tirade at a teenage volunteer.
Not even one hour ago did Van Orden put out a statement saying in part “I have long said our nation’s Capitol is a symbol of the sacrifice our servicemen and women have made for this country and should never be treated like a frat house common room.” https://t.co/DtmzSh6mdc

We obtained a transcript of Rep. Van Orden cursing out Senate pages overnight in the Capitol Rotunda. The account was taken by a page who wrote down the remarks minutes after the incident:https://t.co/0Xu1m93QhY pic.twitter.com/uaxdWWux6u

Hmm, I’m not seeing the words “I’m sorry I drank heavily in my office and then screamed obscenities at teenagers” in Derrick Van Orden’s statement here. Am I reading it wrong?
Thanks to everyone for helping us get this guy fired!https://t.co/25e393mMp0 pic.twitter.com/45dpC0SnTE

Meet Chief Insurrectionist Derrick Van Orden.
How could we trust the man who breached police barricades at the US Capitol during the January 6th riots to protect our country? (h/t @houseaccwarroom) pic.twitter.com/BhJQfJVWbU
