CNN reports:
From the halls of Congress to the dark corners of the internet, charged and violent rhetoric is echoing among some Donald Trump sympathizers ahead of the former president’s appearance in a Miami court on Tuesday FBI special agents across the country assigned to domestic terrorism squads are actively working to identify any possible threats, four law enforcement sources told CNN, following Trump’s second indictment.
So far, the FBI is aware of various groups like the Proud Boys discussing traveling to south Florida to publicly show support for Trump. “We have now reached a war phase,” Rep. Andy Biggs, an Arizona Republican and prominent supporter of Trump’s election denialism, tweeted Friday. “MAGA will make Waco look like a tea party!” one Truth Social user posted Friday in an apparent reference to the April 1993 Waco, Texas siege that left 76 people dead.
The Washington Post reports:
Trump, during a radio interview with longtime adviser Roger Stone on Sunday afternoon, repeated his call for protests. For his part, Stone — who helped mobilize the protest movement that drew thousands to the nation’s capital on Jan. 6, 2021 — encouraged demonstrators to remain peaceful, civil and legal.
But Trump’s supporters have at times alluded to potential violence — including Kari Lake, a Republican from Arizona, who has planned a rally in support of Trump at a hotel in Palm Beach, Fla., on Monday night.
During a conference of Georgia Republicans on Saturday, Lake suggested Trump’s prosecution could be met with violence, noting that she and other supporters are members of the National Rifle Association.
The Miami Herald reports:
“The Miami Police Department is ready to ensure the safety of the city,” is all Miami Police Chief Manny Morales would say Friday about security issues.
The U.S. Marshal Service, which provides courthouse security and will coordinate with local law enforcement, issued a statement: “The U.S. Marshals are responsible for the protection of the federal judicial process, and we take that responsibility very seriously. Ensuring that judges can rule independently and free from harm or intimidation is paramount to the rule of law, and a fundamental mission of the USMS.”
Still, the former president’s pending appearance has Miami bracing for a chaotic day downtown. Businesses and commuters always have to grapple with the intense security and logistical demands when a president visits — but a former president being hauled into criminal federal court will add layers of complexity.
The New York Times reports:
The language used by some right-wing media figures was stark. On Pete Santilli’s talk show, the conservative provocateur declared that if he were the commandant of the Marine Corps, he would order “every single Marine” to grab President Biden, “throw him in freakin’ zip ties in the back of a freakin’ pickup truck,” and “get him out of the White House.”
One of his guests, Lance Migliaccio, said that if it were legal and he had access, he would “probably walk in and shoot” Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and someone Mr. Trump has identified as one of his enemies.
So far, the reactions from Mr. Trump’s supporters have been more intense and explicit than those expressed after Mr. Trump was indicted in a separate case by the Manhattan district attorney Alvin L. Bragg in late March.
