Chicago Man Dead After Rooftop SWAT Team Standoff With Rifle, Flamethrower, And Swastika Flag [VIDEO]

Block Club Chicago reports:

A man with a gun, a flamethrower and a Nazi flag was surrounded by police Friday evening during a more than eight-hour standoff in Humboldt Park. For weeks, neighbors have complained of a swastika flag being hung on scaffolding on the roof of a building in the 4100 block of West Chicago Avenue.

Police closed off a portion of Chicago Avenue near Pulaski Road, where the man could be heard either saying or playing a recording saying, “F– you, Chicago Police … I’m gonna kill you!” while blasting audio with the words “F– you” and a recording of “Eye of the Tiger.”

Neighbors gathered around the block Friday said the man regularly goes onto the building’s roof and uses his flamethrower at night, and he’ll blast recordings for hours that say, “F– police” and “F– Joe Biden,” among other things. Neighbors have heard the man make antisemitic commentary.

Chicago’s ABC News reports:

A man was found dead inside an abandoned warehouse in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood after a more than 12-hour standoff with a police SWAT team. Chicago police said they responded to the incident in the 4100 block of West Chicago Avenue just after 11 a.m. Friday.

Video from Chopper 7HD showed the scaffolding the man was using to display an anti-Semitic sign, the Chicago flag, the Ukrainian flag, and an upside down American flag which is a universal sign of distress. In a statement issued early Saturday morning, police said after officers arrived, the man entered the building “and refused to exit the premises.”

“SWAT officers made entry into the building and discovered a male adult deceased on scene,” said police, who didn’t say what time officers made entry and found the man.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the man had terrorized the mostly black and Latino neighborhood for months. Per the video report below, the man was squatting in the building. Hit the first link above for many photos.
