Former Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney has been nominated by President Joe Biden to serve as a U.S. ambassador for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, according to a White House press statement.
If confirmed, the New York Democrat will be heading to Paris for the gig, replacing former Delaware Gov. Jack Markell, who was appointed to become the U.S. ambassador for Italy.
The former Democratic campaign chief lost his seat to Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) after redistricting upended the state’s congressional map and the GOP blitzed the district. The Biden administration has been considering appointing Maloney to a position within the administration since his loss.
