Pro-KKK Former GOP Rep/Pastor Guilty Of Felony Theft

The Montgomery Advertiser reports:

Former state Rep. William “Will” N. Dismukes III has been convicted of one count of theft of property and could face “significant” prison time, Montgomery District Attorney Daryl Bailey said.

Dismukes, a Republican, represented Prattville and portions of Autauga and Elmore counties in the Statehouse for one term but lost his bid for re-election last year. Dismukes was found guilty of stealing money from his former employer, Weiss Commercial Flooring of Montgomery.

The thefts happened before Dismukes was elected. The jury also found Dismukes guilty of two aggravating factors which will permit Judge Brooke Reid to sentence him to prison. Dismukes will be sentenced on May 4.

The Birmingham News reports:

Dismukes was embroiled in controversy during his time in the legislature, drawing national attention in 2020 when he posted a Facebook image of himself speaking at a birthday celebration for Nathan Bedford Forrest, the first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. He subsequently resigned as pastor of a Baptist church following the uproar. His support of preserving Confederate monuments also led to Democrats calling for his resignation.

As I reported in August 2020, Dismukes refused to resign from the Alabama House following his arrest, with his attorney declaring that Dismukes was “very convicted in his faith, very convicted in his character, and very convicted in his heritage.” Now he’s just very fucking convicted. He faces up to 20 years in state prison.
