Catholic School Teacher Busted On Child Porn Charges

Lafayette’s CBS affiliate reports:

Former teacher Jacob De La Paz, who left his employ at St. Thomas More High School abruptly on Wednesday under a cloud of suspicion, has been arrested in Youngsville.

Authorities have confirmed to KLFY that De La Paz, 33, was arrested at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday by agents from the Department of Homeland Security, assisted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

De La Paz was previously employed at a school in Arkansas, where he was found to have “engaged in inappropriate communication with a student via text messaging” in 2017, and at North Vermilion High School.

The Associated Press reports:

A former teacher at a Louisiana school has been arrested after a video surfaced that shows him shirtless, apparently saying sexually suggestive things to someone he says he tutors. Jacob de la Paz, 33, was arrested Thursday and charged with the federal crime of enticing a minor to produce child pornography or child sexual assault material.

The Rev. Michael J. Russo, St. Thomas More’s chancellor, wrote in a message to parents that De la Paz’s employment ended Wednesday. He wrote that school officials “have no reports, evidence or reason to believe that Mr. De La Paz engaged in any type of inappropriate behavior or misconduct with any students” at the school.
