The Michigan Republican Party’s official social media accounts made misleading posts Wednesday to try to connect Democrat-backed gun proposals to the Holocaust, spurring criticism from both sides of the political aisle.
The proposals came after a Feb. 13 shooting on the campus of Michigan State University left three students dead. “This tweet by @MIGOP is absolutely inappropriate and offensive and should be taken down immediately,” Matt Brooks, CEO of the Republican Jewish Coalition, wrote on Twitter.
Kristina Karamo, the unsuccessful GOP nominee for secretary of state last year, became the Michigan Republican Party’s chairwoman in February. She said Wednesday the party stood by its posts.
