Tampa’s Fox affiliate reports:
From inside the State Attorney’s Office building in Tampa, the governor of Florida took aim at some media outlets and individuals, saying they are falsely explaining the state education department’s stand on some books in schools. Before Gov. Ron DeSantis took the stage, a video played in the room, showing alleged examples of books that have been found in Florida school districts.
FOX 13 has not confirmed if these books were found on campus. When the governor entered the room, the front of the lectern read, “Exposing the book ban hoax,” and began pushing back against criticism regarding the removal of books from schools. “It’s a hoax in service of trying to pollute and sexualize our children,” DeSantis said. “A lot of what’s been going on is an attempt to create a political narrative.”

Gov. DeSantis’ press conference on the Book Ban Hoax was being live-streamed on social media and carried live by local news. The stream was CUT because the books (found in schools!) were too explicit. Sensitive Content warning on Twitter.

It is important to expose the “book ban” hoax about Florida schools.

This is Brian Covey, the Florida teacher who was fired for showing empty shelves in a school library. The same empty shelves that Governor Ron DeSantis later said was fake news. Banning books is literally straight out of the fascist playbook. pic.twitter.com/VNoFyiekVX

Florida’s ongoing book banning campaign has now censored and removed off school library shelves a children’s book about baseball player Roberto Clemente. This is not what freedom looks like 👇 pic.twitter.com/X0NpB6ZCrX
