The Washington Examiner reports:
Around 150 protesters gathered outside what is supposed to be Rep. George Santos’s (R-NY) in-district office Saturday to urge the truth-challenged lawmaker to resign. “His office is not set up,” protester Tanbir Chowdhury told CBS2. “You wouldn’t know that this is your current Congress member’s office right now.”
“We are only focused on removing George Santos and making sure we get a special election,” protester Jody Kass said. “I think it’s really in the best interest of the Republicans to force him to resign,” rally attendee Tom Kearney, a 53-year-old district resident. A member of Santos’s team said, “I do not know where the congressman is.”
The New York Post reports:
The demonstration featured prominent Santos opponents, including Robert Zimmerman, his Democratic challenger in the 2022 midterm elections. Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, was also in attendance. While voting in Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s weeklong House Speaker’s race, Santos was accused of making a “white power symbol.” “It’s absolutely absurd,” said Santos, without elaborating.
Gothamist reports:
The throng, gathered by special interest groups Courage for America and Unrig Our Economy, chanted slogans and listened to addresses by community leaders and activists. Among the congressman’s unhappy constituents at the rally was Great Neck resident Jeff Blye, who says one of Santos’ false claims troubled him more than the rest.
“My parents are Holocaust survivors,” Blye said, “so his story about being Jewish, and then ‘Jew-dash-ish,’ is just totally and completely offensive to me beyond resume embellishment.”
Santos has said that he intends to serve his full term in Congress, despite mounting pressure for him to step down. Officially, there is little politicians or voters can do to prevent that, unless Democrats and a good number of Republicans work together to expel him.
