Giuliani Battles To Save Law License Before DC Bar

Law & Crime reports:

Rudy Giuliani “weaponized his law license” in an assault on the Constitution that he took an oath to uphold, the D.C. disciplinary counsel charged at the start of the former New York City mayor’s attorney misconduct hearing on Monday.

“Nobody would disagree that the right to vote is fundamental,” disciplinary counsel Hamilton Fox noted in his opening statement in Giuliani’s disciplinary hearing. “Not much written about it in the Constitution, but we’ve amended the Constitution three times.”

Noting that people marched, protested and died for the ballot, Fox said: “Mr. Giuliani was responsible for filing a frivolous action asking a court in Pennsylvania to deny millions of people the right to vote.”

CNN reports:

Giuliani attorneys contend that, faced with the fast pace of election-related litigation, he was relying on information provided to him by others assisting the Trump legal team and that he had reason to believe it was true.

The hearing that begins on Monday will take a trial-like form and is only the first stage of the disciplinary process. The proceedings are expected to last several days and may stretch into next week.

Once they wrap up, the hearing committee will assemble a report and ultimately issue recommendations to the Board on Professional Responsibility. That board will consider a round of briefing from both sides and hear arguments, but the final arbiter of the matter will be DC’s local court of appeals.
