Billboard Magazine reports:
Kanye West sat down for an interview with Piers Morgan on Wednesday (Oct. 19), where the rapper didn’t show any remorse for his string of anti-Semitic comments throughout the past few weeks.
When asked if he was “sorry” that he said he was going to go “death con 3” on Jewish people, Ye simply replied, “Absolutely not.” Morgan then quipped, “You should be,” to which Ye repeated, “Absolutely not.”
The English broadcaster continued to push back against West, explaining that his comments are as “racist as anything you’ve been through,” while the Yeezy founder is seen laughing. “Racism is racism, and you know that, don’t you?” Morgan asks.
The Independent reports:
“You don’t hold accountability to my pain, you’re being a Karen,” West told the presenter in a snippet from the interview, which will air in full later this week. “I’m not a Karen,” Morgan responded, “I’m simply going to challenge you on what you’re saying.”
A “Karen” is a pejorative term for a white woman who is seen as demanding or unreasonable and tries to use her white privilege to get her own way. “God forbid one comment could cause people to feel any of the pain that my people have went through for years,” West said.
While Morgan tried to argue that one form of racism should not be used to counter another, West argued: “It’s not racism… I was in a position where I was hurt and this was the way I had the right to express myself.”
The New York Post reports:
After the media personality told the musician that his anti-Semitic remarks were “as racist as anything you say you’ve been through and any pain you’ve experienced,” West did not object.
“It’s the same thing. Racism is racism. And you know that, I think, don’t you?” Morgan asked, prompting the Grammy winner to lift his head up and reply smugly, “Yeah, that’s why I said it.”
Morgan continued to press Ye, asking the fashion designer, “So you said it knowing it’s racist?” West clapped back, telling him, “Yes. I fought fire with fire. I’m not here to get hosed down. That’s a different type of freedom fighter.”
