Freedom Caucus Chair Drops Phone Suit Against DOJ

NBC News reports:

Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., a close ally of former President Donald Trump, has dropped his lawsuit against the Department of Justice requesting the return of all cell phone data seized by the FBI earlier this year.

Perry’s lawyers filed a motion Wednesday to dismiss the case, but did not provide an explanation for the move in the filing. NBC News has reached out to Perry’s office and his lawyers for comment.

Perry, the chair of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, had asked a judge to order investigators to return his phone data and bar them from obtaining or reviewing additional phone records held by his cell provider, AT&T, in an emergency motion filed in Washington, D.C., federal court in August.
