NBC News reports:
Donald Trump fan who brought his teenage son along as he assaulted then-D.C. police officer Mike Fanone and another officer at the Capitol on Jan. 6 was sentenced to more than seven years in prison on Tuesday.
Kyle Young, a 38-year-old HVAC worker from Iowa whose lawyer said was he “injected” with lies about the 2020 election and who had asked his Facebook followers to join him at the “stop the steel [sic]” rally, pleaded guilty in May to a felony count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers.
Young admitted that he used a strobe light to disorient police, helped throw a large audio speaker at police, grabbed Fanone’s wrist when the D.C. officer was abducted by the mob, and made contact with another officer abducted by the mob.

Young must also serve 3 years of supervised release AFTER the 86 months in incarceration. He has already served 17 months, so that will count toward his sentence.

YOUNG, addressing the court, turns to Officer Fanone, apologizes and breaks down crying.
“I am so so sorry. And if I could take it back I would.”
Turning to the judge, he says, “Whatever you give me as a punishment, I accept.”

Judge ABJ preparing to deliver her sentence, makes clear she is not going to be lenient. She describes Young’s conduct as “some of the darkest acts committed on one of our nation’s darkest days.”
She says he made “a series of deliberate choices to do battle with the officers.”

ABJ on Young’s action toward Fanone: “You can hear his screams on the video. Screams … while he’s begging ‘I have children,’ you choose to join in. You aid the others around you and help to hold him down.”
— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) September 27, 2022
MORE ABJ: “It defies understanding that the presence of your 16-year-old son by your side on Jan. 6 did not inspire you to curb your behavior in the slightest.”
— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) September 27, 2022
EVEN MORE ABJ: “You were not prosecuted for being a Trump supporter…You are not a political prisoner…You were trying to stopt he singular thing that makes America America, the peaceful transfer of power. That’s what ‘Stop the Steal’ meant.”
— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) September 27, 2022
WOW: Judge ABJ with extraordinary criticism of Trump.
“The judiciary … has to make it clear: It is not patriotism, it is not standing up for America to stand up for one man who knows full well that he lost instead of the Constitution he was trying to subvert.”

MORE: ABJ (who has faced her own threats) notes that those investigating Trump are facing unprecedented threats
She says some Republicans and Trump are “cagily predicting or even outright calling for violence in the streets if one of the multiple invsetigations don’t go his way”
