Via email from hate group leader Brian Brown:
This setback for HR 8404, the gay ‘marriage’ bill, is due to your devoted support of NOM and your grassroots engagement.
Thanks to supporters around the country, we bombarded Senators with over 600,000 email messages demanding that they oppose the bill, and we flooded their offices with individual telephone calls as well.
It just goes to show you that when we all pull together, we can accomplish some amazing things. But this accomplishment does not mean we have won the fight to defeat the legislation.
In fact, our challenge will be even greater after the midterms because Republican Senators will not have to face voters for at least two years.
This may make it easier for some of them to abandon party principle and turn their back on the 50 million Americans in three dozen states that voted for state traditional marriage constitutional amendments and laws.
In order to prevail, we need to raise significant financial resources. This will allow us to educate voters in key states about the importance of this issue, and mobilize grassroots supporters to keep it front and center through November.
Please make an emergency donation today. All gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to a total of $100,000.
WATCH: Senate won’t vote on legislation to protect same-sex marriage until after the midterm elections, key senators said, in an apparent bid to give Republicans political space to support the bill without offending their base. https://t.co/RdYLvfuTRC pic.twitter.com/hFmKoxiLkt

? Our statement on postponement of Respect for Marriage Act vote:
“We look forward to the U.S. Senate taking up this bill after the election, where it will be considered on the merits instead of being used as the Democrats’ political football.”
