NYPD Fires Officer Over Working For “Known Felon”

The New York Daily News reports:

A veteran police officer fired this week by Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell over his close ties to Trump adviser Roger Stone has vowed to sue the city for $25 million.

Officer Sal Greco was fired Monday after the NYPD brought internal charges in February accusing him of associating with Stone, who had been convicted of lying to Congress in 2019 and sentenced to 40 months in prison before he was pardoned by Trump.

Longstanding NYPD rules bar officers from associating with known felons. Greco was with Stone at his sentencing hearing in Washington in 2020, and again at a Washington hotel on the weekend of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Gothamist reports:

Greco, a member of the citywide traffic task force, was found guilty on multiple counts following a department trial, according to a copy of the decision shared with Gothamist. He was terminated by Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell on Thursday.

Police did not disclose the specific nature of the complaints, but in an interview with Gothamist Tuesday, Stone posited his own theory: “He’s being terminated for being a supporter of Donald Trump and a friend of mine.”

During his disciplinary trial, prosecutors alleged Greco worked as an unpaid bodyguard for Stone, accompanying the longstanding Trump ally to Washington, D.C. as rioters attacked the U.S. Capitol building.
