Gothamist reports:
Dan Goldman, a former prosecutor who campaigned on a promise to oppose right-wing Republicans and former President Donald Trump, overcame a crowded and competitive field to win a rare open House seat in New York’s newly-drawn 10th Congressional District.
The race, which was called at 12:39 a.m. on Wednesday by The Associated Press, was one of the more suspenseful Democratic primaries in New York that pitted Goldman, the wealthiest candidate, against a field of progressive lawmakers, several with years of legislative experience representing the district and its constituents.
In the end, Goldman — a 46-year-old first time candidate who poured $4 million of his own money into the race — prevailed with 16,686 votes over Yuh-Line Niou, a left-leaning state Manhattan assemblymember. Hudson Valley Rep. Mondaire Jones came in third.

Goldman was the lead attorney for the Democrats in Trump’s first impeachment.
The 10th District became open when Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney were thrust into the same district.
Jones, who represents the former 17th District just won by Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, had flooded NYC airwaves with ads touting his status as a the first openly gay black man elected to Congress.
#NY10, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I am humbled to be your Democratic nominee for Congress. I have immense respect for the other candidates in the field and look forward to working with them to achieve our shared progressive vision for this city and our democracy.

The big loss of the night is probably for Mondaire Jones, who will see his one term in Congress come to a close but not in a holy war that would’ve united the left against Sean Patrick Maloney. Instead, he’ll probably be blamed for cutting into Yuh-Line Niou’s votes.
