GOP Arkansas Gov Won’t Back Trump In 2024, Finds Testimony Of Cassidy Hutchinson “Very Compelling”

The New York Post reports:

Outgoing Republican Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson vowed Friday that he would not support Donald Trump if the former president decides to make another White House run in 2024 — with Hutchinson saying Trump constituted “a risk to the nation” in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election.

“As you can see from the testimony on Jan. 6, then and subsequent to the election where he was challenging the legality of it, the lawful transfer of [power] — yes, that was a threat to our democracy. That was a threat to our institutions of government,” Hutchinson told “CBS Mornings.”

The Hill reports:

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) on Friday said the testimony former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson gave this week before the House Jan. 6 select committee was “very compelling.”

Asked about her testimony on Friday, the Arkansas governor, who is a frequent critic of Trump, said the ex-aide “clearly demonstrated her concern and love for our country.”

“Very compelling. I mean, anyone who appreciates the difficulty of someone being 25 and thrust into that incredible closeness to history and what even in her young age understood to be fundamentally wrong, and she testified to it,” Gov. Hutchinson told “CBS Mornings.”

Gov. Hutchinson, who is no relation to Cassidy Hutchinson, is likely be succeeded by Sarah Huckabee Sanders. He has said that he’s considering his own run for president in 2024.
