The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports:
Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo emerged from a crowded field of candidates vying for the Republican nomination for Nevada governor, leading with more than 40 percent of the votes that had been counted as of Tuesday night.
Lombardo’s closest rival, Reno attorney Joey Gilbert, had 26 percent of the vote, according to statewide results posted after midnight that included all but Lyon and White Pine counties.
The two-term sheriff of Nevada’s most populous county will head into what will be a general election matchup against Democratic incumbent Gov. Steve Sisolak, who held a substantial lead over his sole primary challenger as of Tuesday evening.
