Miami Floods After Storm Dumps Foot Of Rain [VIDEO]

Miami’s NBC News affiliate reports:

Portions of South Florida were experiencing the impacts from Potential Tropical Cyclone One from major rainfall across the area. The National Weather Service reports 11.8 inches of rain fell over the downtown Miami as of 9 a.m. Saturday. South Miami has record just over nine and a half inches while Kendall recorded nearly seven and a half inches. The flooding included over nine inches of rain reported in Hollywood and nearly seven and a half inches at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The Hurricane Center said that some cities could see a storm surge of up to three feet. People who live in parts of South Florida that are prone to floods should identify a safe place to go to if waters begin to rise. Officials in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and other cities were distributing free sandbags. Miami’s zoo said that it would be closed through Saturday to allow staff members to prepare the facility for the storm. In Key West, an L.G.B.T.Q. street festival to kick off Pride Month was canceled.
