A Massachusetts man is facing multiple charges as he stands accused of intentionally setting a fire at the Satanic Temple in Salem.
Salem police said 42-year-old Daniel Damien Lucey, of Chelsea, was arrested late Friday night after a fire was reported at the temple on Bridge Street. According to police, they received numerous 911 calls at about 10:05 p.m. reporting that the Satanic Temple was on fire.
According to police, Lucey admitted to traveling to Salem for the express purpose of setting fire to the Satanic Temple while he was being interviewed by officers. Police said Lucey then made statements that he considered his actions to be a “hate crime.”
