Florida Principal Left Loaded Guns Unattended [VIDEO]

Miami’s NBC News affiliate reports:

Officials found some loaded firearms on a school campus and they said they belong to the principal. Two loaded guns were found on the campus of Somerset Academy, a charter school in Parkland, Thursday.

They were found inside a bag that was left unattended inside the school located on 8401 N. University Drive.

The guns were found by a Broward Sheriff’s Office school resource officer. After being secured they were turned over to detectives. Investigators determined that the weapons belonged to the school’s principal, Geyler Castro.

Miami’s ABC News affiliate reports:

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our students, staff, and school community,” according to a statement that was sent out from the school’s governing board, also promising families that the school “strives to maintain open lines of communication.”

The box was placed in a locked room after the discovery was made, which school officials said was not accessible to students or staff members.

At this time, the principal has not made a statement. When Local 10 News asked for a comment from the principal, we were directed to the statement from the governing board. Possessing firearms on school property is a felony in Florida, according to Florida Statute 790
