Pompeo Speech Lays Groundwork For 2024 WH Bid

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports:

Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo checked all the boxes for a Republican presidential candidate in the Trump era, going after the “woke left” and the media while wading into gender politics Thursday during a Sarasota appearance that included a warning about Americans moving away from “Judeo-Christian” values.

Pompeo is widely believed to be considering a presidential run in 2024, and referenced the election in his speech to the Sarasota County GOP, saying some in the crowd suggested “there ought to be something I do in 2024.” Pompeo didn’t reveal his 2024 plans, but said the left “will stay in the fight, we have to stay in it, too.”

Florida Politics reports:

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared in Sarasota Thursday night to accept the local GOP’s Statesman of the Year award.

The Statesman of the Year Dinner has become a bit of a must-stop for national figures with White House aspirations. Gov. Ron DeSantis accepted the honor last year at a dinner in October. Trump won the honor twice, the only person to date to do so.

Pompeo swings through town weeks after his PAC issued an endorsement of Rep. Bill Posey, another sign he’s looking to build a political apparatus with a strong presence in Florida.
