Sarah Palin Seeks New Trial In NYT Defamation Claim

Bloomberg News reports:

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is seeking a new trial and a new judge in her defamation suit against the New York Times after Bloomberg News reported that several jurors deliberating in the case learned from smart-phone push notifications that the judge had already said he would rule in favor of the newspaper.

U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff said in a telephone conference Wednesday that lawyers for the former Alaska governor are seeking to file “five interesting motions” asking him to order a new trial, reverse his ruling in favor of the Times, disqualify himself from the case, allow the jurors to be questioned and disclose any contacts with the media during the trial.
