A right-wing doctor known for spreading debunked claims about the COVID-19 pandemic has reached an agreement to plead guilty to charges connected to the Capitol riot, the Justice Department told a federal judge Tuesday.
Dr. Simone Gold, who founded America’s Frontline Doctors, gained a following in the summer 2020 through her opposition to COVID-19 lockdowns and her promotion of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the virus.
During a status hearing Tuesday, attorneys said Gold had reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. It was not immediately clear which charges she had agreed to plead guilty to.
