The Raleigh News & Observer reports:
The Orange County school board unanimously passed a resolution Monday opposing “incidents of hostile and racist behavior” as protesters voiced their objections outside the meeting, including members of white nationalist groups.
Extra security was present at Monday’s Orange County school board meeting at AL Stanback Middle School amid reports that the Proud Boys were protesting the district’s COVID-19 and LGBTQ policies. The group has held other protests at district events, and several members of the group spoke at and attended the school board meeting Monday.
School board chairwoman Hillary MacKenzie said the resolution is needed even more now because of a recently uncovered video of Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson calling LGBTQ people “filth.” MacKenzie also called on Robinson to resign.
