The Budapest Business Journal reports:
Budapest will host the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a gathering of conservative activists and elected officials from the United States and beyond, in 2022, the Budapest-based Center for Fundamental Rights said, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
CPAC, which is organized by the American Conservative Union (ACU), touts itself as the “largest and most influential gathering of conservatives in the world”.
Center for Fundamental Rights director Miklós Szánthó said at a press conference that CPAC could take place in Budapest at the end of March 2022. The goal is to attract a number of outstanding U.S. politicians, journalists, and influencers to Hungary, he added.
Last month CPAC also held a conference in Brazil in support of Jair Bolsonaro. Anywhere there’s a budding dictatorship, CPAC will follow.
Am I going to have to do this whole bit over again? Look, I don’t know what’s wrong with these people but if your agenda for America is to make it like Hungary that’s fucked up.https://t.co/EJUpZvsu0R

Color me skeptical about the CPAC in Budapest story. But if it’s true, the CPACers are in for some fun surprises about Hungarian COVID policy, including compulsory masking and Hungary’s participation in the EU digital vaccine passport program. https://t.co/HktNDs7enh pic.twitter.com/dHVdxuagcw

And “nativist Hungarian conference in Budapest” takes its place alongside New Hampshire and Iowa on the list of must-visit locations for the GOP’s 2024 presidential aspirants.

If you want to see what the “conservative” movement has become, there is no clearer signal than this.
Next year’s CPAC will be held in Budapest, Hungary – the nation that has eroded democracy faster than any other in the last decade.
