The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, says he will address the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week, despite not having been vaccinated.
The New York mayor’s office said all those attending will have to show proof of vaccination to enter the debate hall because it is classified as a convention centre. UN Secretary General António Guterres, however, says he cannot impose the requirement on heads of state.
At the beginning of the pandemic, Bolsonaro described Covid-19 as a “little flu” and in April, he said he would be the last Brazilian to get vaccinated – because he’d already had the virus.
