The Birmingham News reports:
An Alabama lawmaker says he will propose legislation to prohibit school systems from mandating that students in K-12 public schools wear masks to guard against the spread of COVID-19.
Rep. Andrew Sorrell, R-Muscle Shoals, said it should be up to parents whether their children wear masks at school. He said he is sponsoring the bill at the request of a group from Huntsville called Unmask our Kids, which is trying to build support for the legislation with an online petition.
Sorrell, who is running for state auditor next year, said his bill is based partly on the efforts to stop school mask mandates by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Under Sorrell’s bill, a local school district that imposed a mask mandate would face a 5% loss of its state funding. Sorrell does not have any children in school.

Andrew Sorrell voted to protect confederate monuments and was the only person in the Alabama House to vote against giving teachers a raise. He shouldn’t be in charge of anything that taxpayers own.https://t.co/6ZoBdz9h0I
