UK To Hold “Public Consultation” On Ex-Gay Torture Ban

Reuters reports:

Britain will move to ban conversion therapy and provide more support to those in the LGBTQ community who have undergone the treatment, as part of its post-pandemic government agenda. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government said measures would be brought forward to prevent these “abhorrent practices which can cause mental and physical harm,” starting with a consultation on how best to protect people and how to eliminate coercive practices.

The BBC reports:

A public consultation will be opened before a ban on so-called conversion therapy, the government has announced. It will consider religious freedom and protecting professionals, including therapists. A document signed by a number of leading health groups defined conversion therapy as the attempt to change sexual orientation or gender identity. The proposed ban in England and Wales was announced in the Queen’s Speech.
