Pelosi Rejects GOP Plea To Drop House Mask Mandate

Newsweek reports:

Over 30 House Republicans sent a letter to Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on Thursday asking her to lift the mask mandate in the House following new guidelines from the CDC. The letter, spearheaded by Ohio Congressman Bob Gibbs then signed by 33 other GOP members, begins by pointing to new guidance from the CDC released earlier on Thursday. Then the letter “urges” Pelosi “to immediately return to normal voting procedures and end mandatory mask requirements in the House.”

The Insider reports:

When asked by CNN’s Manu Raju whether she would drop the House rule in light of the news, Pelosi gave a decisive “no,” asking, “are they all vaccinated?” A spokesperson for Pelosi confirmed to Bloomberg that the mask mandate would remain because it’s not known how many lawmakers and their staff are vaccinated. Pelosi instituted a mask mandate in the chamber in July, after some Republican members refused to wear one.
