The Hill reports:
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Thursday repeatedly batted away questions about several Republican lawmakers who downplayed the violence that occurred at the Capitol on Jan. 6 and former President Trump’s role in the insurrection.
When pressed further about Republicans casting doubt on the severity of the Jan. 6 insurrection, McCarthy said: “What happened on the 6th was atrocious. When I look at the rioters that came in, those people should be held accountable to the rule of law, and that’s exactly what’s happening.”
Read the full article. As I reported yesterday, during a House hearing multiple House Republicans pretended that there was no riot at the Capitol, calling those Trump supporters mere “peaceful patriots” who were there on a “normal tourist visit.” One even complained that there there was no “poll” of rioters showing that they were actually Trump supporters.
I just spoke with a very upset Officer Michael Fanone. It’s #PoliceWeek and for weeks Ofc. Fanone has made multiple requests to talk to @GOPLeader. He wants to show McCarthy what he experienced on 1/6. Today he was hung up on by McCarthy’s staff. RT if Kevin should meet a hero.
