The Des Moines Register reports:
U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley said Wednesday he supports Gov. Kim Reynolds’ decision not to accept into the state migrant children who are in federal custody, adding that Iowa does not have the resources for “baby-sitting.”
“Iowa has a long history of accepting refugees from Gov. Ray’s time in office, and I’m sure that we’re going to continue to take refugees,” he said on a call with reporters. “But refugees won’t need baby-sitting by the … state government, like the requests to take these migrant kids.”
Former Iowa Gov. Robert Ray, a Republican, welcomed thousands of refugees from Southeast Asia to the state during his time in office.
