Bloomberg News reports:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer in calling for the removal of President Donald Trump in the wake of what many lawmakers from both sides of the aisle said was his incitement of the mob that stormed the Capitol.
Pelosi said the House may proceed with impeachment if Vice President Mike Pence doesn’t invoke the 25th Amendment — which would also require the backing of the majority of Trump’s cabinet — to oust the president.
“If the vice president and the cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment,” she said. Pelosi said Trump is “ a very dangerous person who should not continue in office. This is urgent, an emergency of the highest magnitude.”
Business Insider reports:
An ominous note was left for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in her office Wednesday after rioters in support of President Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol building as lawmakers were discussing the certification of the 2020 election results.
The note was left on a desk in Pelosi’s office atop a computer keyboard. The note was written on a manila folder in red ink. “WE WILL NOT BACK DOWN,” the note said.
Pelosi’s office was vandalized by some of the president’s supporters who mobbed the Capitol on Wednesday. Congress was forced to abruptly enter recess. Vandals ripped photos off the wall and flipped furniture in the house speaker’s office.
