What happens when powerful bigots don’t get their way, and don’t think they’ll ever have to face consequences for their actions? As someone who spends a lot of time reading about the past, lately I’ve been feeling some uncomfortable déjà vu. So I think it might be a good time to look back at what happened in San Francisco in 1978 and see if there are any lessons for today.
